Couple’s Counselling

Seeking couple’s counselling is not an easy step; it takes a lot of courage to acknowledge the challenges in your relationship. However, working with a therapist can be beneficial as it will address the conflicts and concerns between you and your partner in a safe environment. Common problems that couples typically experience include, but are not limited to, inadequate communication, managing high or unrealistic expectations, lacking a connection, infidelity, struggling to manage daily stressors, and the workload of parenting.

Evidence-based approaches include Gottman Method Couple Counselling, Emotion-Focused Counselling, and Cognitive Behavior Therapy

Individual Counselling

Life can present many challenges and it is crucial to have the skills and tools necessary to cope with them. Individual counselling is beneficial for those experiencing depression, anxiety, trauma, ADHD, interpersonal challenges, low motivation, procrastination, bullying, challenges with family origins, stress at work, and for those who lack a robust support system. Attending therapy can help clients learn strategies to manage their symptoms, improve day-to-day performance, create boundaries, engage in problem-solving, and learn skills to effectively cope with distress.

Evidence-based approaches include Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, Cognitive Processing Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing.

Trauma and Addiction Counselling

Trauma refers to any event (typically physical or verbal abuse) that causes extreme distress and anxiety, whose after-effects can impair the individual. Types of trauma include natural disasters, a physical trauma (being hit, abandoned, or harmed with weapons), emotional trauma (feeling devalued by someone through the use of abusive language, insults, name-calling, unwanted criticism, accusations, threats, and controlling your behaviour), sexual trauma (sexual abuse or rape), and war trauma. Currently, many trauma survivors use substances to cope with distressing memories. Hence, to produce lasting results, it is important to treat trauma and substance abuse concurrently rather than treating either condition as separate entities.

Evidence-based approaches include Cognitive Processing Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Harm Reduction Program, and Structured Relapse Prevention.
